The day has finally arrived (so please humour me by nodding your head to the following) and I know you’ve been on the edge of your seat waiting for this adorable pattern. So let’s go make you one!
What you’ll need:
Do you have everything? Off we go!
I’ve set up the sizing for the bonnet as follows:
Newborn (6 months, 1 year, 2 years, 3 years, child, youth)
Grab that crochet hook and chain 20-30 depending on how long you’d like for the first tie to be. The length is all about personal preference so there is no right or wrong!
Remove the crochet hook from the last chain and place that loop onto your knitting needle. Using the backwards loop cast on you will cast on 10 (15, 25, 35, 45) stitches.
Knit in garter stitch until your piece measures 25 (30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 60)cm /10 (12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 24)in.
Bind off and pull a loop through the last bind off stitch. Replace your needle with the crochet hook and chain 20-30 to make the second tie. Pull the last chain through and weave in both ends of each tie.
Fold your bonnet in half and using the mattress stitch method, seam the top of the bonnet together.
For the ears (make 2):
Cast on 5(10) stitches
Knit 8(16) rows.
Cut yarn leaving a long tail.
Use a darning needle (or a smaller crochet hook) pull the tail and secure.
Sew ears to the bonnet – I typically put them in the middle top 1/4 area of the bonnet.
That’s it! Easy peasy (I hope).
